Recently in the limelight for its full-marble Only Watch timepiece, Bulgari kicks off Geneva Watch Days 2023 with a stellar presentation of six new watches. Designed for both men and women, these novelties cement Bulgari’s dual identity in watch and jewelry making while underscoring its rich expertise in design creativity. For men, Bulgari offers a new rendition of its superstar icon, the Octo Finissimo, and for women, the Italian maison spotlights its unassailable jewelry crafting savoir-faire through four secret watches across two all-time favorite signature themes, Serpenti and Monete.

Bulgari Octo Finissimo CarbonGold

Since its introduction in 2014, the Bulgari Octo Finissimo has been dressed in near ever material conceivable. Stainless steel, gold, platinum, titanium, ceramic, carbon, tantalum for Only Watch 2021, and as mentioned above, marble for Only Watch 2023. For Geneva Watch Days 2023, the Octo Finissimo reprises its application with carbon which was first seen in the 2018 Octo Finissimo Carbon Minute Repeater. At that time it was highly disruptive in terms of design as well as concept since it is not often that a high complication such as the minute repeater gets cased in carbon.

So today Bulgari revisits this high-tech material and applies it to two existing models: the Octo Finissimo Automatic and the Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar. But there’s more. To bring a delightful contrast to the futuristic aesthetic of the all-black carbon — with a beautiful naturally dappled surfaces — Bulgari incorporates the two watches with elegant streaks of shimmering gold. Key details on the dial such as the hour numerals and markers, the hands, the Bulgari logo and the Swiss Made label are all enrobed in rose gold tone, while the crown is actually made of 18K rose gold along with a black ceramic insert.

Which is all very nice but in case you’re wondering, we’ve still not arrived at the main event. Turn the watch over to the back and you’ll see what the fuss is all about. There, over the glorious expanse of its generous sapphire crystal case back lies the mechanical manufacture ultra-thin movement Caliber BVL 138 (BVL 305 for the perpetual calendar model) and its gorgeous gold-tone movement bridges. Finished with traditional Côtes de Gèneve and dotted with polished screws and rubies, it is a beautiful sight by any and all measure. In keeping with the gold-tone theme, even the platinum winding micro-rotor is dressed in gold.

And reminding you of the watch’s love for gold (apparently it’s called chrysophilia) is a miniature cartouche attached on the case middle.

Bulgari Serpenti Misteriosi Secret Watch

The Serpenti is of course Bulgari’s most famous icon, and the Italian maison continually unveils ever more intoxicating design renditions year after year. Coiling sensuously around the wrist, the Serpenti watch more often than not comes with a quartz movement. But since 2022 with the arrival of the Caliber BVL 100 Piccolissimo movement, Bulgari now has the ability to create mechanically-driven Serpenti high jewelry watches, thus cementing its reputation as a watchmaking jeweler.

Caliber BVL 100 is not only the smallest mechanical movement ever made by Bulgari, but also one of the smallest mechanical movements ever made in the luxury industry. In a way, it shows us that Bulgari has not only mastered ultra-thin movement making but also ultra-small. More importantly, with BVL 100 comes a world of new opportunities for Bulgari to adapt the Serpenti for modern watch-savvy audiences. And the forward thinking doesn’t stop here.

As the Serpenti is not just a jewel, not just a watch, but very much both, Bulgari intends it to be enjoyed on both fronts. Thus, the movement is completely removable, so that in the event it needs to be sent back for servicing, the Serpenti can still remain with its owner, and continue to be worn as a jewel. You could also purchase a quartz movement as a standby unit should you so desire.

For Geneva Watch Days 2023, Bulgari debuts two additional looks for the mechanical Serpenti: a fully iced-out version in white gold with eyes of dazzling pear-shaped emeralds, and a rose gold model covered in black lacquer scales interlaced with navette diamonds, along with green pear-shaped emerald eyes.

A grail piece for many jewelry lovers, the Bulgari Monete combines art, jewelry and history with perfect aplomb. Featuring antique precious coins sourced predominantly from Rome and Greece but also other ancient cities, this collection now includes timepieces via the Monete Catene Secret Watch, which once again underscore’s Bulgari incredible creativity in combining watch and jewelry design.

Across two different and yet equally spectacular models, Bulgari revisits an aesthetic inspired by Roman jewelry of the 1^st century AD. In the Monete Catene Dual Time, the two coins of the Monete Catene Dual Time cuff evoke the reign of a fabled couple, that of Septimius Severus – emperor from 193 to 211 AD – and his empress, Julia Domna, who was venerated as a goddess. On the Monete Catene wristwatch: a denarius, or silver coin, bearing the effigy of Emperor Caracalla, who ruled from 198 to 217 AD. Minted during his reign, the coin expresses this emperor’s strategic genius.

Bulgari’s jewelry crafting savoir-faire comes through most evidently in the smithing of the gourmette bracelets of the watches, known as catene in Italian. This quintessentially Italian style has been a part of Bulgari’s creative heritage since the 1940s, and first seen featuring the Monete design in the 1960s. Reminiscent of the Octo Monete watches of the past, the Monete Catene wristwatch comes with twin rows of catene chains lightly sprinkled with diamonds.

Meanwhile, the Monete Catene Dual Time takes things up several notches — decidedly into high jewelry territory — with five rows of chains all fully paved with diamonds. Its rectangular case was inspired by a Bulgari heritage watch from the 1970s and combines a single row of baguette diamonds on the periphery contrasting with snow-set diamonds all around the two coins. The entire watch also features rose gold in addition to touches of yellow and white gold set with more diamonds all around — talk about wrist candy.

And to continue with the candy metaphors, these watches come with a surprise center too. Originally introduced by Bvlgari in the late 1990s, the Aluminium collection of lighthearted and lightweight sports watches made a stylish comeback in 2020. This clever reintroduction filled a gap in the brand’s watch catalogue by offering an entry-level and fun timepiece.

With summer just around the corner, Bvlgari has decided to give its sports watch collection a spritz of extra freshness. The new Aluminium collection now offers a wide range of colours that embody the spirit of various activities and vacations during this vibrant season. Alongside the introduction of new palettes, Bvlgari has also unveiled a new case size, providing more variations and options for watch enthusiasts.

Capri Edition

Bright Capri models join the Bvlgari Aluminium collection

While the aluminium-and-rubber sports watch has a chic design, its colour options have traditionally been relatively limited. The palette has mostly consisted of restrained combinations such as stark black and white. Even the limited editions, like the Tricolore, have only applied pops of green, red, and blue to minor details. In another collaboration with American DJ Steve Aoki, the watch features a white dial during the day and transforms into a vibrant display at night with its fully illuminated dial. However, the introduction of the Capri Edition now brings a refreshing change to the collection.

In a tribute to its Italian roots, the latest limited edition draws inspiration from the enchanting Capri Island, located on the south side of the Gulf of Naples, off the Sorrentine Peninsula in Italy. Picture yourself taking a cable car ride on Capri Island, beholding the hilly landscapes and the expanse of the blue ocean, with the majestic Faraglioni rocks in view. Or imagine venturing into the Blue Grotto, a dark sea cave with a section that illuminates in brilliant blue due to an underwater cavity allowing sunlight to filter in from below. All of these scenes are reflected in the dial of the latest editions — a gradient blue that transitions dramatically from a sky blue hue to a deep, almost black shade as you move from the top to the bottom of the dial.

Notably, the blue dial of the Capri Edition is accompanied by a matching blue rubber bezel and strap. To enhance visual contrast, the strap features an aluminium insert, mimicking the appearance of a bracelet. Adding a touch of cheerfulness to the design, the dial incorporates a splash of yellow, creating a vibrant atmosphere.

The Capri Edition offers two variants in terms of functions: a time-and-date model and a chronograph model. Both versions share the same 40 mm wide case. Underneath the dial, both models are powered by the Sellita SW300 movement, a clone of the slim yet reliable ETA 2892. The chronograph variant incorporates adds chronograph module to the mix.

What sets this edition apart is its construction, specifically designed for tennis enthusiasts who wear the watch on the court. To ensure comfort during play, the crown has been relocated from the traditional right side to the left side, preventing it from digging into the wrist. Furthermore, the strap has been enhanced with a convenient Velcro closure, allowing for effortless wearing and removal.

The Bvlgari Bvlgari watch series is a testament to the Italian luxury brand’s commitment to timeless design and precision engineering. Bvlgari Bvlgari was first introduced in 1977 as part of maison’s first collection of watches inspired by ancient Roman coins.

The Octo Roma series was launched nearly two decades ago, in 2004. Its name, “Octo,” refers to the watch’s distinctive octagonal case, while “Roma” refers to the brand’s Roman heritage. The in-house constructed BVL 191 automatic movement is svelte, making the overall case height less than 10mm.

The Octo Roma features three dial variations — bold and elegant anthracite gray, classical blue or minimalistic white dial — decorated with subtle clous de Paris motif and matched with lumed hour markers and hands. The watch has a clean and easy-to-read design that makes it a perfect choice for both casual and formal wear. A date window is positioned at three o’clock, and the watch is fitted with a screw-down steel crown which helps to ensure water resistance of up to 100 meters. The newly added crown guards make the case appear more balanced, and functionally protect the crown from receiving shocks and bangs.

Bvlgari Octo Roma Chronograph

This is the first time Bvlgari has introduced the chronograph complication for the Octo Roma series. The Octo Roma Chronograph features a bold and elegant design that is inspired by the brand’s iconic Roman DNA, but there is a relaxed luxury vibe to the style of the watch.

The 42mm case is water resistant to 100 meters, making it suitable for a variety of activities, from casual wear to water sports. The chronograph function is powered by the Swiss-made BVL 399 mechanical movement with a 42-hour power reserve. Bvlgari has modified the base BVL 191 caliber and has added a chronograph module for the additional compliacation.

The Octo Roma Chronograph has two dial variations — bold and easy-to-read black or classical blue — both adorned with the small, pyramid-like squares of a clous de Paris hobnail motif. This backdrop provides a highly legible contrast for the metallic hour markers and hands that have been filled with Super-LumiNova. The subdials include a small seconds, chronograph hour, chronograph minute and a discreet date window at the 4:30 position.

The case has satin-brushed and polished finishes for a look that is minimalistic with a subtle dynamic nuance. The chronograph pushers seamlessly integrate into the case and draw the attention to protective crown guards and the screw-down crown. The Octo Roma Chronograph case is a great design achievement in itself.

Bvlgari Octo Roma Grande Sonnerie Perpetual Calendar

The Bvlgari Octo Roma Grande Sonnerie Perpetual Calendar is a true symbol of luxury and sophistication. This magnificent timepiece is a marvel of mechanical engineering as well as the epitome of refined elegance and taste.

The design was inspired by the work of the legendary watch designer Gérald Genta and was made in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the first Grande Sonnerie developed by Genta in 1994. Genta was known for his iconic designs, which blended classic and contemporary styles to create timepieces that were both timeless and modern. More than 90 Grande Sonnerie watches have been created since 1994, and the new watch is an excellent update for the line.

Bvlgari Octo Roma Emerald Grande Sonnerie

The Bvlgari Octo Roma Emerald Grande Sonnerie is a watch that embodies the essence of indulgence and elegance. The 44mm case of this one-of-a-kind timepiece is crafted from 18K white gold and is set with glittering 446 baguette-cut Zambian emeralds and diamonds totaling over 30 carats.

The dial of the Octo Roma Emerald Grande Sonnerie is a work of art, with its baguette-cut diamonds that are arranged in a mesmerizing pattern, adding a touch of glamor to the watch. The diamonds are perfectly placed to reflect light and add an extra touch of sparkle to the watch. The semicircular power reserve indicators — one for the chime (24 hours in grande sonnerie mode) and one for the watch — are positioned in such a way as to enhance the overall aesthetic of the watch. The Grande Sonnerie function, which chimes the hours, quarters and minutes is a true work of art.

The sapphire crystal on the caseback provides an unobstructed view of the intricate BVL 703 caliber that is composed of 732 individual components meticulously assembled over nine months by a dedicated master watchmaker. The watch features a melodious Westminster chime that can be silenced or activated on demand by the side pushers.

Bvlgari has exceedingly succeeded in fusing haute horlogerie with haute ioaillerie, and the Octo Roma Emerald Grande Sonnerie is a perfect specimen of this fusion.

Bvlgari Octo Roma Blue Carillon Tourbillon

The Octo Roma Blue Carillon Tourbillon is the second iteration of the Octo Roma Carillon Tourbillon, offered in a sporty blue colorway. It is a minute repeater with a three-hammer carillon with Westminster chime, regulated by a tourbillon, all thanks to a slim BVL 428 caliber that measures in at 35mm across with a height of only 8.35mm.

Bvlgari explains that for the complex case construction, “generous proportions of the case are designed to maximize sound propagation, enabling increased torque from the three-hammer construction and greater sound power production.” Specifically, the mid-case is designed to maximize sound and allow for the most volume and resonance. The case internals are also hollowed out according to design, to reduce the amount of metal between inside and outside. Then there are three openings that correspond to the three chimes, which allows for the sound to travel unencumbered outside of the case’s internal chamber.

Bvlgari goes on to say that the gongs of the BVL 428 are forged by hand before being annealed at a temperature of 900 degrees Celsius. The metal surface is then cleaned before another round of heating in an oven at 500 degrees Celsius, which at last gives it the physical qualities necessary for crystalline resonance. Adjustments to each gong is then made by a master watchmaker, carefully coaxing out the necessary notes for a Westminster chime. As stated by Bvlgari: “The melodic sequence of this chime with three hammers striking three tones plays the note C for the hours, the notes E D C for the quarters and the note E for the minutes.”

The blue skeletonized dial is a fascinating openworked design that showcases the intricate mechanical movement within. The blue color of the dial is eye-catching and adds an extra touch of sophistication to the watch. It is treated with an ALD (Atomic Layer Deposition) process, which provides a highly resistant and long-lasting finish.

The blue alligator leather strap provides a comfortable and secure fit, and is fitted with a platinum folding clasp that is easy to use. The blue color of the strap provides a stunning contrast to the platinum case, and it is the perfect finishing touch to the watch.
